The Italian Arabescato Orobico marble is extracted from Triassic rocks in the Upper Brembana and Seriana valleys, whose the formation dates back to about 225 million years ago. It is a thin band of veined or laminated red limestone, with a maximum thickness of about 50 meters. They originate from tropical environments similar to the present Bahamas, characterized by clear waters and immense coral reefs. The particular colors are due to the presence of iron oxides and hydroxides, dolomite and volcanic ash. Usually cultivated in the open air, our quarry stands out because of tunnel mining, which has significant advantages due to its reduced landscape and environmental impact.

The Arabescato Orobico marble is mainly intended for valuable works. Thanks to the preciousness of the design and excellent polishing, it is widely used in ecclesiastical buildings or noble palaces: marble inlays, furnishings and architectural details – such as altars, balustrades, columns and especially floors. The particularly large surfaces allow to enhance the splendid geometric open-book designs, which are obtained thanks to careful processing and elaborate installation studies. Examples of particular aesthetic and architectural importance are represented by the pavement of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Nuova Fiera of Bergamo in Boccaleone.

BLOCKS OF ARABESCATO OROBICO MARBLE

The blocks of Arabescato Orobico marble are extracted from our Arabescato Orobico marble quarry in San Giovanni Bianco, located in the Bergamo Prealps. It is a technologically advanced tunnel quarry, to ensure the protection of the landscape and environmental heritage of the territory in which it is located. The marble rock is sectioned into parallelepiped-shaped marble blocks of about 10 cubic meters.

When applied to ornamental rocks, the term arabesque is used to indicate material that has a lively and articulated design, reminiscent of the typical decorations of Arab art and architecture. The peculiarity of the design is owed to the cutting of geological structures that have particular folds, fractures or cracks. Thanks to these characteristics of the rock, the arabesque marbles have typical aesthetic effects with reticulations formed by straight and curved lines of various colors.

From our quarry of San Giovanni Bianco we extract the Arabescato Orobico marble in different colour shades and combinations: black and grey; red and grey; rosé and grey.

SLABS OF ARABESCATO OROBICO MARBLE

The slabs of Arabescato Orobico marble are particularly appreciated for their inimitable aesthetic qualities and technical characteristics. Once resized, the block of Arabescato Orobico marble is taken to the laboratory, where – thanks to diamond blades – it is sectioned into slabs. With the use of special machinery, we proceed to the subsequent processing to obtain the finished product: the marble slab – typically sandblasted and polished. The Arabescato Orobico marble slabs enhance the inimitable aesthetic qualities of the raw stone, while preserving its technical characteristics.

The Arabescato Orobico marble features high coefficients of resistance to compression and bending stresses; and its very low imbibition coefficient ensures negligible porosity. The result is a marble with excellent resistance to frost damage and a behavior perfectly compatible not only with the typical use of the ornamental stone for flooring, interior coverings, or work surfaces; but also for uses as external coatings with a rustic surface.

Moreover, thanks to the presence of elaborate designs, the Arabescato Orobico marble is perfectly used for the creation of bookmatching works with 2 or 4 slabs. The polishing of the this precious marble slabs makes colours and arabesques look even more vivid and picturesque.
